Happy Valentine's Day Art

Valentine’s Day – what an enjoyable aftermath to all that winter holiday excitement. Its far enough away from Christmas and New Years to let you recuperate, but close enough to sort of play off the festive spirit. Ya just gotta have another occasion to celebrate – right?! According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine) – “The popularity of Valentine cards in 19th-century America was a harbinger of the future commercialization of holidays in the United States.[2] Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year behind Christmas. The association estimates that women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines.[3]
All of this being said, I spend an important portion of my year on Valentine oriented design to appeal to the mass market and to make for fun, inviting cards and decorative elements for the holiday of Amore. I love utilizing great loose curves and swirls in many of my designs regardless of the occasion or theme, and this practice lends itself especially well to my Valentine pieces. Traditional, lacy hearts adorned with Victorian cupids may certainly be appropriate for this holiday of lovers, but my work expresses a modern twist on an old idea by incorporating the latest style trends. Injecting fun and whimsy into any Valentine’s celebration can make for a more adventurous day!
